FILMTANTRA PRESENTS CINETALKIES

Cinetalkies- A podcast by Filmtantra is started with an aim to bring people closer to indie cinema and their filmmakers. In this podcast, student filmmakers talk to professionals about their experience in working closely with the industry. Every episode features a new guest talking about their perspective on cinema, its changing forms, their films, what one must know before becoming a filmmaker, and other answers which a cine buff might be looking for.

Episode 1 : TARUN JAIN

Tarun Jain is an independent filmmaker based in Delhi, India. His first short film “Aakhir - At Last” which was a thriller traveled to about 40+ international film festivals. It won a “Gold Remi Award” at the 47th Worldfest, Houston, Texas, USA amongst others and was distributed for the TV in the USA and EMEA territories. . In the first segment, we talk about various animation studios.

Episode 2 : SURAJ PRASAD

Suraj is a cinephile, actor, filmmaker, and creative technologist. He is the co-founder of the Lightcube Film Society and has been on the awards jury for various festivals. He is keen to work on the issues and subjects that lie at the intersection of arts, technology, culture, and society.

In this episode, we discuss how like everything film has evolved as a highly commercial medium and how the impact has led us to changed perspective.

Episode 3 : MEHDI JAHAN

Mehdi Jahan is a writer/director of Assamese origin who began as a cinematographer for a PSBT produced documentary 'The F Word'. He has also written and directed a short film 'Jyoti and Joymoti' and taught Film Studies/Film Appreciation at the Assam Institute of Mass Communication and Media Research. In this episode, he talks about regional cinema in India as well as the representation of the North-East in films.

Episode 4 : ROHIN RAVEENDRAN

Rohin talks about the film school vs No film school learning. He shares his experience of working on Sacred Games and how the experience was different from working in a feature film. We also discuss how student filmmakers while shooting on a low budget could aim for a quality film by paying attention to certain aspects.

In this episode, the film writer/director talks about what it means to finance and make your own films, how he started his journey into filmmaking, and what separates theatre from cinema.

Episode 6 : IRAM GUFRAN

Iram Ghufran is a filmmaker. Her work has been shown in various art and cinematic contexts including the Berlin Film Festival, Experimenta India, New York Indian Film Festival, and Open Frame among others. She was shortlisted for the Tim Hetherington Visionary Award (2016). She has won two National Awards (2012)

Episode 7 : GAURAV

Gaurav is a student filmmaker and an enthusiast of the history of cinema. He is currently a student of SRFTI and in this episode, he talks about his experiences of learning filmmaking as well as his interest in film studies. A candid discussion on the debate of film school vs experience occurs.

Samarth Mahajan is a non-fiction filmmaker, passionate about telling human stories that remain invisible to the mainstream.

'The Unreserved', his national award-winning feature about passengers in the third class of Indian Railways, premiered at Film Southasia 2017, has been presented at more than 50 forums.
